Status of France's "leading role" in the EU
Particular during the years under President Macron, France has played a leading role as a driving force in the European Union. Award-winning journalist with an international outlook
Sylvie Kauffmann is a recognised observer of international affairs in France, and she became the first female editor-in-chief of France's leading daily newspaper, Le Monde, in 2010. Today she writes editorials and columns on international affairs for Le Monde, where she is also editorial manager.
Kauffmann has also been an international correspondent for l'Agence France Presse and Le Monde and has reported from Asia, Eastern Europe and the US, from where she i.a published an award-winning series of articles on life in the United States after 9/11, the Chronicle of America at War. Her analyses and comments on European and international politics also appear in the New York Times.
Sylvie Kauffmann earned degrees in journalism from the Centre de Formation des Journalistes in Paris, in Spanish from the Duesto University in Bilbao, in law from the Faculty of Law at the University of Provence Aix-Marseille, and in politics from the Department of Political Studies at the University of Aix-en-Provence.
Lykke Friis is director of the Think Tank EUROPA, cand.scient.pol., Ph.d. in Political Science, Master of European Studies from the London School of Economics and an author. Friis is a former Minister of Climate and Vice-Rector from the University of Copenhagen. Friis has for years been a commentator in various media regarding the EU's global position. In addition, Lykke Friis moderated the conversation between President Macron and the then Danish Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen when they discussed Europe's future in the Queen's Hall during the French state visit in 2018.
