Pretalk: Chimanada Ngozi Adichie's literary project
DIAMOND CLUB ONLY - Exclusive lecture on the literary star.
Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie was born in southeastern Nigeria and traveled to the United States when she was 19 years old. In 2003, her debut and breakthrough novel, Lilla hibiscus, was published. Subsequently she has had great success with titles such as Americanah (2013), We Should All Be Feminists (2014) and most recently with the release Notes on Sorrow (2021). Adichie has received several major awards for her writing, while establishing herself as an important voice in the debate on racism and gender.
Before Adichie goes on the International Authors' Stage in the Queen's Hall, Associate Professor at the University of Copenhagen, Ulla Rahbek, will provide insight and perspective on the authorship. Ulla Rahbek is an in-depth connoisseur of Adichie's writing, which is why she is the right person to guide both old and new readers into the fantastic writing. Rahbek will first give an overview of Adichie's authorship and get into the various themes and messages the books touch on. There will also be an opportunity to hear how Adichie's books are read as Afropolitan literature - literature that questions what it is like to be part of the African diaspora in the West. What does it mean to leave - and to come home? That and much more Ulla Rahbek will talk about in this special pretalk for the Diamond Club.
Ulla Rahbek
Ulla Rahbek is an associate professor at the Department of English, Germanic and Romance Studies at the University of Copenhagen, where she teaches postcolonial studies, among other things, and she has both taught and written about Adichie's books for many years.
