Poseidonkvartetten
Three-day mini-festival with string quartets: Poseidonkvartetten performs the last quartets of the two great masters Schubert and Beethoven.
Poseidon is the god of the sea and the forces of nature, and the quartet's naming after Poseidon in particular refers to the four musicians' striving to bring out moods and contrasts in the music – from wildness, temperament and crashing waves to calm, introverted and silent seas. Over the years, the four musicians have developed a unique common understanding of how the music should be interpreted, phrased and conveyed to the audience, and this makes their concerts something very special.
Programme
- Ludwig van Beethoven: String quartet opus 135
Intermission - Franz Schubert: String quartet no. 15 in G major D. 887
The programme consists of the last quartets of two great masters: Beethoven's string quartet opus 135 is a work that both looks back on the composer's long career, sums up and puts an end to the dazzling creative power of the genius Beethoven. Schubert was inspired by Beethoven but developed a completely personal quartet style, which came to full bloom in the last three quartets. The last one, No. 15 – also called "the great G major" – is the most challenging and one of the works that best shows his style.
