Musical Balling

In the company of Erik Balling's granddaughter, we pay tribute to the popular film director and the music that played such a big role in his work.

Programme

Mozart, Bernstein, Brahms, Irish folk music, Cornelis Vreeswijk, Cæsar, Charles Aznevour, Leo Mathisen, Papa Bue, Kim Larsen and others.

The popular director Erik Balling, known for e.g. "Matador" and "Olsen Banden", told stories that struck the Danes with its portrayal of the Danish culture and spirit. Balling was not a musician himself, but music played a decisive role in his work.

Balling would have turned 100 years old in 2024, and on that occasion we are paying tribute to the musical side of his work with a very special concert. The concert is led by Erik Balling's granddaughter, the violinist Cæcilie Balling, in collaboration with the jazz pianist Nikolaj Hess. The soloists are Sofie Elkjær, Bisse and Kaspar Vigsom, and they are supported by a string ensemble and a jazz trio. The narrator is Karen-Lise Mynster, who takes us behind the scenes of the man and the artist Erik Balling.
