Michala Petri with baroque trio

The world-renowned Danish recorder player plays Bach, Corelli and Handel with her baroque trio.

For this concert, Michala Petri will perform with her baroque trio, playing works by Corelli, Bach and Handel.

Musically related composers on the programme

The Italian composer Corelli was a great influence on both Johann Sebastian Bach and George Frideric Handel.

Handel visited Corelli in Italy, where they made music together and discussed which violin technique was the best and most correct. Handel's Concerti Grossi op. 6 is directly inspired by Corelli in both form and compositional technique.

Similarly, Bach, without having met Corelli personally, was inspired by Corelli's style in his solo concertos. In honour of Corelli, Bach wrote the "Fugue on a Theme of Corelli", which is also played in this programme.

Programme

  • Arcangelo Corelli (1653 – 1713): Sonata da Chiesa in F major from Op. 3
  • Johann Sebastian Bach: (1685 – 1750) Fugue on a Theme of Corelli BWV 579
  • Georg Friedrich Händel (1685 – 1759): Sonata for alto recorder and basso continuo in D minor HWV 367
  • Johann Sebastian Bach: Four duets for recorder and viola da gamba BWV 802-805
  • Johann Sebastian Bach: Chorale, “Von Gott will ich nicht lassen”
  • Georg Friedrich Händel: “Air con variazioni” from Harpsichord Suite No. 3 in D minor
  • Arcangelo Corelli (1653 – 1713) Sonata da Chiesa in B major from Op.3
