Marianna Shirinyan (DK/AM) and the Danel Quartet (FR/BE) (2:3)

The second concert in the Pianists in the Diamond series is with one of the most creative and in-demand pianists in Europe, Armenian-born Marianna Shirinyan.

Programme

Bach/Busoni:

Ferruccio Busoni (1866–1924)/JS Bach (1685–1750): Chaconne from Partita No. 2 in D minor
Dmitri Shostakovich (1906-1875): String Quartet No. 14

Intermission

Mieczysław Weinberg (1919-1996): Piano Quintet

Marianna Shirinyan is a treasured guest at The Diamond, where she most recently took the stage with cellist Torleif Thedéen in the autumn of 2023. This evening, Shirinyan is accompanied by the Franco-Belgian Danel Quartet. Shirinyan and the quartet met at a festival in 2023 and the connection between them was instantly strong and the desire to make music together mutual. This evening the reunion is realised with two works by Slavic composers; one Polish/Russian and one Russian, as well as one of Italian Ferruccios Busoni's very breathtaking transcriptions of Johann Sebastian Bach's music.

Participants

Marianna Shirinyan, piano

The Danel Quartet:

Marc Danel, violin
Gilles Millet, violin
Vlad Bogdanas, viola
Yovan Markovitch, cello

Pianists in the Diamond

Since 2019, The Diamond has had this very well-attended series as a regular part of the programme. The pianists are both names from the top shelf of the classical music scene and very young shooting stars. We have heard music by some of the greatest composers in the history of music, from Beethoven to our own heroes, Gade and Nielsen. This season, the series continues in the same spirit, and this time the piano is paired with a number of established string quartets.
