Lecture: Denmark's first photo – 1840

ONLY FOR THE DIAMOND CLUB - do photographs speak the truth? Come to a lecture with the Royal Danish Library's senior researcher Mette Kia Krabbe, who has written a book on Danish photography history.

Do photographs speak the truth?

We have to be skeptical when we see Donald Trump in an orange prison suit, sharks in the streets of Venice and other more plausible motifs. We have had to be skeptical ever since Denmark's (probably) first photo was taken on Gråbrødretorv in 1840. Was it a coincidence that there was a drunk lying on the square just then, so he became the first photographed Dane in history - or was it set up?

Right from the beginning of the history of photography, people have tried to embellish reality by staging, double exposure, cutting together and retouching. This book tells the history of Danish photography from glossy daguerreotypes and yellowed carte de visite photos to advertising photos, press photos, occult photos and private photos to today's heavily pimped Instagram posts.

Meet the Royal Danish Library's senior researcher Mette Kia Krabbe, who made this book, and hear her talk about it.

You have the opportunity to buy the book at the event and have it signed by Mette Kia Krabbe. As a Diamond Club member, you get 20%.
