Jazz Festival: La Caja Negra (The Black Box)

Experience Paloma Pradal, Pierre Bertrand and the Copenhagen Jazz Orchestra and others during Copenhagen Jazz Festival.

La Caja Negra - the black box - refers to the traditional drum which, together with the dramatic song and dance, is at the heart of the expression of Spanish flamenco music. One of France's leading composers and saxophonists, Pierre Bertrand, has been inspired by this particular drum and has composed and arranged the work of the same name - La Caja Negra.

Musicians with jazz and flamingo DNA

In connection with this year's Jazz Festival, Bertrand comes to Copenhagen to perform the work for the first time in collaboration with the Copenhagen Jazz Orchestra. With him he has an exuberant team of musicians who know both jazz and flamenco's DNA inside out, and who also count the fantastic singer Paloma Pradal among them. Pradal visited The Diamond last year and, to put it mildly, brought down the Queen's Hall with a fantastic concert. The collaboration with the Copenhagen Jazz Orchestra is based on a shared vision that inspiration from global musical traditions can pave the way for new musical insights and expressions.

A colourful world of orchestral music

Copenhagen Jazz Orchestra, nicknamed "The Orchestra", has for a number of years set the tone with its flexible and chamber-musical warm big band sound. With the joy of intimate interaction at its centre, the band invites the audience into a colourful world of orchestral music and improvisation. The orchestra also visited The Diamond in 2022, here in collaboration with the German piano phenomenon Florian Weber.
