Gustav Piekut has gradually become a celebrity in The Black Diamond, both as the headliner at a concert in autumn 2023 and as part of the programme for Music Festival Days in the Diamond, spring 2024. Early in his career, he won all youth concerts in this country. Now he is in his twenties and the praise is still pouring in.
It is the Diamond's idea to put him together with one of Spain's absolute leading string quartets, Quiroga, who, with their great national composer Granados (nicknamed "the Spanish Grieg"), brings music that is not often heard in our latitudes to the Diamond's audience.
Participants
Gustav Piekut, piano
The Quiroga Quartet:
Aitor Hevia, violin
Cibrán Sierra, violin
Josep Puchades, viola
Helena Poggio, cello
Pianists in the Diamond
Since 2019, the Diamond has had this very well-attended series as a regular part of the programme. The pianists are both names from the top shelf of the classical music scene and very young shooting stars. We have heard music by some of the greatest composers in the history of music, from Beethoven to our own heroes, Gade and Nielsen. This season, the series continues in the same spirit, and this time the piano is paired with a number of established string quartets.
Marianna Shirinyan (DK/AM) and the Danel Quartet (FR/BE) (2:3)
The second concert in the Pianists in the Diamond series is with one of the most creative and in-demand pianists in Europe, Armenian-born Marianna Shirinyan.
Saleem Ashkar (PS/IL) and the Henschel Quartet (DE) (3:3)
We conclude Pianists in the Diamond with a concert in which the remarkable Palestinian-Israeli pianist Saleem Ashkar performs music written and inspired by Clara and Robert Schumann.
