The Faces of Music: Queen Kristina - The Swedish muse

ONLY FOR THE DIAMOND CLUB: Peek behind the curtain of music with the Faces of Music.

Lecturer in music history at the Royal Danish Academy of Music, PhD in philosophy and author Søren Schauser talks about Queen Kristina, one of history's most enigmatic female figures - a fearless and devilishly violent queen who in 1654 renounced the Swedish throne and converted to Catholicism to go to Rome. Here Kristina opened an academy, called Arcadia, where the participants studied music, theatre, literature and language.

A lot of Italian baroque music is dedicated to her, and a selection of it can be heard at Concerto Copenhagen's concert on 24 February, 2024. You therefore have the opportunity to attend this concert with solid background knowledge after an hour in the company of Søren Schauser.

The Faces of Music

An incredible amount of preparation and activity takes place before we as the audience can settle comfortably into the chairs of the Queen's Hall to experience a piece of music. The musician must be trained, the music must be written and rehearsed, the instrument must be built, the programme printed, etc.

The Faces of Music lets you peek behind the curtain of music over two Wednesdays and invite e.g. composers, musicians and researchers to talk about their work before the music can be heard at a concert for the audience's pleasure.
