Press Photo of the Year 2024

The exhibition Press Photo of the Year shows the selected photographs from the competition of the same name, which every year awards Danish press photographers and their most excellent shots, within several categories such as 'News Photo of the Year', 'Portrait of the Year', 'Sports Photo of the Year' and not least 'Press Photographer of the Year' and 'Press Photo'.
It has once again been a good year for Danish press photography, and more than 2,700 strong images competed to become Press Photo of the Year. From among them, the jury has chosen six strong photographs that cover both some of the biggest stories of our time and the most intimate emotions. They are each very different in their expression, just like the subjects, which range from immigration to cleanup after a natural disaster and an intimate moment in a bathtub.

Queen Margrethe was only 31 years old when her father Frederik IX died on 14 January 1972 and handed over the throne to her. With 52 years, she is Denmark's longest-reigning monarch, but in these seconds an era ends, and she leaves the Council of State and passes the throne to her son with the words: God save the king!
