In connection with the Copenhagen Light Festival, in February you will be able to enjoy two beautiful light works inside and outside The Black Diamond. Fascinating corals will glow in the water at the dock, and luminous spirals will float in the Atrium.

Corkscrew
The light artwork Corkscrew invites us to participate in a visual meditation over time and space. Five free-floating spiral-shaped figures create a dynamic narrative in a poetic dance.
The shape of the spiral is based on the perfection of the circle in synthesis with the changeability of the direction. The spiral becomes a visual symbol of the duality between repetition and change, an exploration of the space between the security of the constant and the excitement of the unpredictable.
The question arises: Should our perception of the world be understood as an endless series of repetitions, or do we instead see the beauty of the changeable as we stretch towards the infinite?
Shine on, You Crazy Coral
Why do corals light up? It is one of the ocean's most beautiful and striking mysteries. Shine on, You Crazy Coral invites the audience to experience one of nature's most wondrous light phenomena: fluorescent corals.
The recent collapse of several of the world's coral ecosystems is a catastrophe that is unequivocally linked to global warming. Scientists have investigated why different coral species are luminescent, and they now believe that one of the phenomenon's purposes is to defend the corals against harmful sun rays and rising sea temperatures. In this installation we see coral creatures in a luminous choreography that is about their own survival.
Shine on, You Crazy Coral is a close collaboration between visual artist Maja Friis and coral researcher Elena Bollati v/ Prof. Michael Kühl's laboratory, Department of Biology, University of Copenhagen.
