Copenhagen Concerto: Georg Muffat

The baroque orchestra Concerto Copenhagen performs cosmopolitan George Muffat's harmonious tribute to Europe.

The composer Georg Muffat grew up in the border region of Alsace in the 1650s, at a time of conflict and war in Europe. Despite the disputes, Muffat remained a cosmopolitan and peace lover - in the preface to one of his publications, he writes:

"When I mix French tones with Italian and German, it is not to incite war and conflict, but rather as a prelude to harmony and peace between countries".

Like no other composer of his time, Muffat managed to combine his German identity, his French education and the inspiration of Italian music in a unified musical style that made him a singular and unique composer.

Concerto Copenhagen and Lars Ulrik Mortensen have always had a special relationship with Muffat's music, and in August 2020, they recorded Muffat's magnum opus Armonico Tributo - Harmonic Tribute. This concert marks the release of the album.
