Concerto Copenhagen: 1774 – a symphonic year

Take a unique musical journey back to the decisive year 1774, when the symphony really became its own independent genre.

Programme

Carl Stamitz (1745-1801): Symphony in E flat major, Op.9 No.6

Joseph Haydn (1732-1809): Symphony no. 52 in C minor

Intermission

Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach (1714-1788): Symphony in D major, Wq.183/1

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791): Symphony No. 29 in A major, KV.201

Symphonies were formerly used as opening music for other settings, but in the late 18th century the form of the symphony was dramatically expanded and refined. The symphonies from 1774 show an incredible variety, and this evening you can look forward to experiencing four wonderful symphonies from a time when a composer, if he lived long enough, could write over 100 symphonies.
