Johannes Brahms (1833-1897): String Quartet No. 1 in C minor, Op. 51, No. 1
On the recent visit of the American quartet Brooklyn Rider, they had two Danish folk songs in their sleeve as an encore - as a salute to The Danish String Quartet. Brooklyn Rider is known for their good programmes, and this time they come with their latest, From one note.
The string quartet's deepest frequency is the cello's open C string, and the group will explore works that revolve around precisely the note C this evening; from Mozart's wildly inventive Dissonance Quartet to the musings of Betsy Jolas and earthy soundscapes of Arvo Pärt to the swirling masterpiece opus 51 no. 1 by Brahms. But the audience can also join in on a sounding C in Purcell's magical Fantasia Upon One Note.
Participants
Brooklyn Rider:
Johnny Gandelsman, violin
Colin Jacobsen, violin
Nicholas Cords, viola
Michael Nicolas, cello
