Athelas Sinfonietta: Minimalism, concert and film

The music moves onto the big screen when the ensemble Athelas Sinfonietta performs two iconic pieces of music from the world of the film.

Programme

Philip Glass (1937-): Mishima String Quartet No. 3 (1985)

Reich/Richter Music by Steve Reich (1936-). Moving Picture 946-3 by Gerhard Richter & Corinna Belz (2019)

Athelas Sinfonietta Copenhagen is Denmark's national ensemble for new composition music, and they are presenting for the first time in Denmark the music that composer Steve Reichs made for visual artist Gerhard Richter's minimalist and tightly structured art film Moving Picture (946-3). The cool and elegant minimalist artwork had its world premiere in New York in 2019.

This evening the film will be shown on the big screen of the Queen's Hall with the music performed live by the ensemble in the hall.

Before the performance, hear Philip Glass's breathtaking String Quartet No. 3, originally written for the film Mishima, which was quickly recognised as a musical masterpiece born from an inspiring meeting between producers George Lucas and Francis Ford Coppola, director Paul Schrader and Philip Glass.
