Codices Latini Haunienses

The Codices Latini Haunienses web pages contain digitisations of a selection of the library's Latin manuscripts in an older format with research-based introductions.

The manuscripts are from approximately 600 to approximately 1600 with Latin texts from antiquity, the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. The majority are manuscripts with Latin classics from antiquity, but there are also manuscripts with biblical, liturgical, hagiographic, historical and other sources.

The manuscripts are reproduced in their entirety. They have introductions, overviews of the content, as well as comments on individual pages where this has been appropriate.

A number of other Latin manuscripts have been digitised in Digital Collections.

About the Latin manuscripts

Signatures and collections

Signatures for manuscripts in the library consist of a collection name (often, as here, in abbreviated form) followed by a number and indication of format (2°, 4° or 8°). Latin manuscripts from the Middle Ages are found in the following collections:

Add. = Additamenta
E don. was. = E donatione variorum
Factory = Fabricius´ Collection
GKS (Gl. kgl. Saml.) = Gammel Kongelig Samling (Old Royal Collection)
NKS ((Ny kgl. Saml.) = Ny Kongelig Samling (New Royal Collection)
Thott = Thottske Samling (the Thott collection)

Bibliography

Latin manuscripts in the library are catalogued in: Ellen Jørgensen, Catalogus codicum Latinorum medii ævi Bibliothecæ Regiæ Hafniensis, Hafniæ 1926 [available online here]

Approximately 835 manuscripts are described in Jørgensen's catalogue. The sub-collections Additamenta, E donatione variorum and Fabricius' Samling belonged to the Copenhagen University Library until they were transferred to the Royal Library in 1938. Manuscripts in these sub-collections are not included in Jørgensen's catalogue.

Detailed bibliographic information about the individual manuscripts is given in the introductions to the digital facsimiles.
