The cantata was written for the concert in memory of C.E.F. Weyse who had died on 8 October 1842. It was the first time that a new work by Hartmann was performed in Musikforeningen. Hartmann not only succeeded Weyse as organist at Vor Frue Kirke (The Church of Our Lady) but also as the official cantata composer of Denmark.

In green cloth binding with green marbled sides. Handwritten label with the monogram of King Frederik IX pasted on front cover inscribed: "J.P.E. Hartmann / Weyses Minde / Cantate. 36. Partitur." Written in brown ink with a few emendations in pencil in foreign hand. Paper: 16 staves. Title above the music on p. 1: "Weyses Minde, Cantate / af H: Hertz. [added in pencil:] Op. 36". Hartmann's pagination is sporadic. Later pagination in pencil at the bottom of each page.

Written in purple ink. Paper: 12 staves. Title above the music: "Romance / af Cantaten Weyses Minde (1842)". In upper right-hand corner added in pencil in foreign hand: "I.P.E: Hartmann." Fourth page blank. At the bottom of the first page added almost illegible in pencil: "8153 2 Pl", which is not the plate number of the separate print of the romance published in 1880, which has the number 8154.
